Is winning a choice or something that happens to
you? Winning is a choice, it is not something that
happens to you. Oftentimes, most of us are not
aware of the power we have in choosing to win or
choosing not to lose.
Now, most people do not deliberately choose to lose, but
just in the same grain, most people are not aware that
they can choose to win. Most people believe that winning
is reserved for the talented and lucky and not available
to everyone.
There is a common saying that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to
it. In that case, winning really comes from how you
react to the situations you encounter.
7 Steps to Choosing Winning.
1. Choose the right endeavor: Even though winning is a choice, there are certain
endeavors that you might not be talented enough to
win unless you improve your skill level.
2. Self Development: In continuation with the first point. Spending daily
time in improving your skill level and taking action in
the endeavor you have picked to win in, would make
all the difference. There is a popular study that indicates that if
you choose a field of study and you develop your skill
level for about 60 minutes a day. In just 3 years, you
could be at the top of that field. In five years, you
would be a national authority and in seven years, you
would be one of the best in the world.
3. Inversion: This means choosing not to lose as a way of
winning. It is easier to avoid activities that will ensure we
lose, than it is to pursue activities that
will enable us to win. Inversion means avoiding the things that we know
will certainly prevent us from winning. Such as avoiding laziness, sloth, spendthrift, wrong
relationships and association, lack of accountability
for one’s own actions, not investing in
self-development, selfishness etc.
4. Radical Responsibility: Accepting responsibility for everything that
happens in your life. We often live our life with the moniker of “poor me”
and “bad him/her”. Making the decision to accept responsibility for
everything that happens to us in life, regardless of the
source, is the first step to taking control of our lives
and putting ourselves on the path of winning.
5. Commitment: The commitment to win is akin to the choice to
win. So many people give up in their pursuit of
winning. Absolute refusal to lose. The full commitment, diligence and perseverance to
winning at all costs will assure winning. The full
pursuit of every requirement and resources that will
enable you to win. Pursuing it tirelessly without
quitting will assure you win.
6. Focus: Winning requires focus. Focused tasks on the
endeavors you have chosen to undertake. It is impossible to win if we want to focus our
energies on all tasks. Winning requires an incredible amount of energy and
focusing one’s energy to the endeavor at hand is
crucial.
7. Accountability: Accountability is the breakfast of
champions. In order to win at any endeavor, you have to
engage in a certain level of activity in your pursuit.
We often lack the willpower to stay consistent with the
amount of effort it takes to win. This is where
accountability plays a huge role. We cannot keep ourselves accountable. We need systems
or people that will keep us accountable. Accountability is crucial when it comes to
winning.
